Guide to choosing the right cushion inner size for perfect plumpness
Choosing the right cushion inner is crucial to achieving that perfectly plump, inviting look that will add a designer touch to your home. Cushions are a great way to pull a style and colour palette together with colour, texture, pattern and shape. While the cover gets all the attention, the cushion inner (fill) is the unsung hero and can make or break a design.

Start with the cushion cover size, then size up
The golden rule of cushion inners is simple, always go up a size. This applies to most standard cushion shapes, whether square, rectangular or round. The reason is all about achieving perfect fullness. A slightly larger inner will fill out the corners and edges of your cushion covers, preventing a saggy, under stuffed look.
When to deviate from the cushion cover rule
For larger Euro cushions like a 60 × 60 cm, a full 5cm increase in the inner may not be needed as they naturally have more fill to distribute. A cushion inner around 2-3cm bigger would be sufficient. The same applies with a lumbar cushion like a 30 x 50 or 40 x 60cm as too much stuffing can distort their shape.

The difference between Polyester vs Feather: Which cushion fill is best?
The type of cushion filling significantly affects both the feel and the overall look of your cushions. The two most common cushion inner fills are Polyester or Feather. New Zealand wool inners are also becoming popular for a luxurious, soft and sustainable option for your cushions.
Polyester inners are a lightweight, budget friendly option that offers a firm, consistent fill that holds is shape well. Polyester inners are hypoallergenic and so are a great option for those with sensitivities. These inners are also ideal for high use areas like the family sofa and are perfect if you like the tidy, upright look.

Feather inners are more luxurious with a malleable feel that brings softness and a relaxed, designer look to your spaces. They are usually filled with duck or goose feather and tend to be heavier than polyester inners. Feather inners provide a comfortable, sink in feel and are known for their ability to be “chopped” . They do need regular plumping and occasional airing.
