Te Ahi Puhapuha - Māori Art by Tipene Douglas

Te Ahi Puhapuha means exploding or erupting fires, referring to a Volcano. The two manaia figures refer to Kuiwai and Haungaroa who were Ngatoroirangi's sisters. They sent him "fire" from Whakaari to Tongariro/Taupo when he needed to be warmed up, and the hot pools of Tongariro saved him.
